Dear visitors and users of my web site,

I'd like to introduce you to the city of Piran – the jewel of the northern Adriatic sea, the »horn« of Istria on the Slovene coast where I was born. I am sure that Piran is one of the most beautiful places on earth and that's why I'd like to let the broadest public possible witness the »magic of this place«. Let me present the town.

I could start with telling about its history but it is already nicely presented on Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piran

A lot of nice photographs of Piran can be found through this link:

I can say there are 13 churches, several galleries, museums, restaurants and so on but I can't tell you about the »genius loci« (spirit of the place). Once you come to Piran you will fall in love with it, and that's magic I cannot explain with words. The result is that in all these years there are a lot of people that could not resist its attraction even if it is so simple and they move to Piran from Austria, Italy, France, Germany, the United States, even Japan and other distant countries and that's why Piran has always been a special place where cultures are mixed together, making it a sort of bohemian city. Many are inspired because it has an artistic spirit represented by Giuseppe Tartini, the great violinist born in Piran, who even as great a master as Niccolo Paganini admired and called »Maestro«; and I am very proud of this as I am proud of what the visitor is seeing upon entering Tartini's square or better ellipse reconstructed by the architect Mr. Boris Podrecca. Even better is the picture of Piran when you come in from the sea. If you take a look on the upper link you can see a little of its beauty. There is also the newer Portorož a mile from Piran, where hotels are huddled. The way through Portorož leads you to my favorite place, Forma Viva, where sculptors from all around the world have created marvelous sculptures leaving little pieces of their souls residing in the space and thus inspiring visitors. There is a path from Forma Viva that leads you to the very rare salt fields where people from Piran use to work in summer time. Beautiful looks like the end of the world. We are trying to keep alive these old traditions and we are doing great but still not enough and that is the main reason why I decided to help my city in my way. Keeping alive the tradition of producing the salt from the salt fields inspired me to start creating my own »pieces« that I call PHOTOPOEMS in which I tried to inhale my own spirit searching for the »salt of life«.

Photographs of Forma viva can be found through this link:

I would like to invite all of you, concluding with the quote of Frank Zappa who has a lot of fans in our region: »A mind is like parachute. It doesn't work if it is not open.«

WELCOME.
